Fastener Weight Calculator

Theoretical weights for bolts, studs, U-bolts, nuts, and washers — from ASME dimensional standards or your own custom dimensions. Pick a type, size, and length; get weight each, total, and per hundred.

Estimates only. Weights are theoretical and may vary from actual product.

How the weights are calculated

Every result is theoretical bare-metal weight = density × solid volume. Threaded length is taken at the pitch (effective) diameter, D − 0.6495/TPI; the shank is a solid cylinder at nominal diameter; hex heads and nuts are chamfered hexagonal prisms (0.866·F²·thickness reduced ~6% for the corner chamfers on manufactured parts, calibrated to published weight charts), nuts minus the tapped bore; carriage heads are a round dome plus a square neck; U-bolts are a bent rod weighed at its developed (straightened) length along the rod centerline, with leg length measured from the inside of the bend to the end of the leg (round bend: straight legs plus a half-circle; square bend: straight legs, a flat bottom and two tight corners), both legs threaded; washers are a flat annulus. Standard dimensions follow ASME B18.2.1, B18.2.6, B18.5, B18.2.2 (hex, heavy hex and jam nuts) and B18.21.1. Choose Custom… in the size list to enter your own diameter, TPI, thread length, and head geometry — blank geometry fields are estimated from the diameter. Plating, chamfers, and tolerance are excluded. The Thread type toggle reflects rolled- vs cut-thread construction: cut / full body keeps a full nominal-diameter shank, while rolled reduces the unthreaded body to the thread (pitch) diameter for a lighter part. Verify against your own catalog before quoting.
