How the code works
Every code reads left to right: part type + grade, diameter + thread, length, finish. For example HCS8-08C-0200-ZY is a 1/2-13 × 2″ hex cap screw, Grade 8, zinc yellow.
| Segment | How it’s written | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Part type | HCS hex cap screw, HHB heavy hex bolt, HSB structural, CB carriage, ATS all-thread stud, DES double-end stud, UBR / UBS U-bolt round / square, HN / HNJ hex nut / jam, HHN / HHNJ heavy hex nut / jam, FWS / FWU / FWF SAE / USS / fender washer | HCS |
| Grade | Added straight onto the type: 2, 5, 8, 307, 449, BD, 325, 490, B7, B7M, 2H, DH, A, LC, H, SS, 316. Pick Other… for anything else (titanium, Monel, silicon bronze…) and a short code is suggested, e.g. TI5. | HCS8 |
| Diameter | Sixteenths of an inch, two digits (1/2″ = 08, 1″ = 16, 1-1/2″ = 24, 4″ = 64, 6″ = 96) | 08 |
| Thread | C = coarse (UNC, or 4UN above 4″), F = fine (UNF, or 12UN above 1-1/2″), U = 8UN | 08C |
| Length | Inches × 100, four digits (2″ = 0200, 2-1/2″ = 0250). U-bolts: width X leg | 0200 |
| Finish | PL plain, ZC zinc clear, ZY zinc yellow, HG hot-dip galvanized, BO black oxide, or Other… (e.g. MG mechanical galv, XY Xylan). Stainless and “None” leave it off. | ZY |
| Domestic | -D on the end when the Domestic box is checked | -D |
